The major art project of the Fall with the students was certainly their paper mache sculptures. They take up three separate art classes (1. create the form using paper/tin foil 2. Cover the sculpture with paper mache 3. Paint the sculpture). This year I gave the students the option to make ONE change to their creature (they had to choose a creature that can be found outside somewhere in Norfolk County). The majority of students did not make any changes which I found interesting! I was very pleased with how their paper mache creatures turned out. Here are a some finished examples from the Grade 1/2, 3, 5, 6, and 8 classes:
Last week I wrapped up the first half of my school project by assembling (finally) all of the collaborative collages. Each class had a theme based on their local community. The students painted the canvas (24x30) and painted the artwork - watercolour on watercolour paper. My part of this collaboration was to cut out the artwork and assemble it together on the canvas using a lamination glue. This project is a lot of work, but the results are worth it! AuthorI live in Southern Ontario on a farm with my husband, Dennis, and our two daughters. Painting out of my studio on our farm allows me to stay close to my family and to be surrounded by the natural landscape that continues to influence my work. Archives
